Samsung has revealed a new version of the Galaxy S4 focussing on users wanting more from their camera phones.
The Galaxy S4 Zoom was revealed at the Bluetooth SIG this week as “SM-C101.” The S4 Zoom is thought to look like the upcoming S4 Mini but with a powerful 16mp rear camera with an optical zoom.

In terms of hardware, optical zooms are far more superior to normal smart phone cameras. Rival firms such as LG and Huawei are frantically developing their own optical zoom camera phones but Samsung’s rumoured 10X zoom capability would be the market leader, overtaking the the Nokia 808 PureView’s with its 3X zoom.

The new S4 Zoom is the latest version of Samsung’s flagship phone and marks another step by the manufacturer in matching their competitor’s USPs. Other predicted variations on the classic S4 include the S4 Mini, a smaller version of the S4 to combat the iPhone 5’s more compact screen. There is also thought to be a more robust version of the S4 being released to undermine Sony Xperia Z’s waterproof feature. The Zoom appears to be a direct match for the Nokia ranges more powerful camera. For every other option, there will be a Samsung to match.

While the Samsung strategy could be seen as blocking out competition handsets. The larger camera also takes aim at the stand alone camera industry which has already been undermined by phone camera capabilities. It is rumoured the new Zoom phone could be released as early as June 2013.
