Will the Firefox tablet be unveiled in June?

Mozilla made a bold move in February when it released its Firefox OS for smartphones, with deals with 18 operators and several major manufacturers, rumours are circulating it is about to take on tablet markets. Taiwanese company Hon Hai, the parent company of Foxconn is holding an even in June where many feel it will announce its new Firefox OS for tablets rather than smartphones. This makes sense for the company as they have had their own Firefox browser available tablets for nearly 18 months and UI designer Ian Barlow has been blogging recently about several designs lessons he has learned. When you consider the first Firefox smartphones, a tablet would make sense as many of the apps which...

Guest post: Tablets to look out for in 2013

We are almost half way through 2013, and we have seen a lot of action in the tablet and touchscreen markets, however if reports and rumours are to be believed, there is a lot more to come. We have  recently seen the release of androids 4.1 jelly bean operating system which coincided with Google’s nexus range, and according to tech radar we will soon be shown the fifth version of the OS know as key lime pie. This news hits us just a week before we are expecting to see apple’s IOS 7. Although this is good news, what can we actually expect to see as far as hardware is concerned? Well actually we have already seen some quite...

The Microsoft Surface Pro review

People have been waiting for the Microsoft Surface Pro for a while now.  Of the Windows 8 tablets, it may well be the one that rivals the Google and Apple products. Windows have always been able to make a good looking tablet but with the beauty came a whole load of problems which outweighed the good things about them. If Microsoft can produce a machine as powerful as it is beautiful then they could be onto a winner. The original Microsoft Surface RT was full of problems. Luckily, Microsoft seemed to have learned from their mistakes and the Surface Pro is a world better for it. It’s fast, responsive and consistant in its actions making it one of the...

Quick review ipad 4th generation

Late 2012, Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced two new iPads. The iPad Mini and the latest generation iPad. Boasting a A6X processor, retina display and lighting port adaptor. The new iPad was meant to be faster, better looking, quicker to charge and generally an improvement on the old tablets. Now that the New iPad isn’t new is it worth upgrading for the sake of change? With such great definition in the screen, the iPad looks pretty good and indeed the processing power more than keeps up with the most detailed of graphics. Also the battery has been kept the same so you get nine hours game play before you need to stick its tiny new adaptor in for a...

Google Nexus 7

For many, owning a tablet with a model data connection seems pointless. Why bother paying for an extra contract, bill or data plan when you already have a mobile phone which does pretty much the same thing in your pocket? Even if you get desperate, personal hotspot allows you to tether your tablet to your mobile data plan saving you money. The Google Nexus 7 with mobile data looks exactly the same as the wifi only option except it comes with a little slot where your simcard goes. Unfortunately, the data plan you’ll be buying is only 3g compatible with no LTE available for the Nexus as yet. This means slower streaming, more buffering and less enjoyment. The battery...

Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9

Billed as “the best tablet at any price,” by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is similar to previous offerings but with a bigger screen and LTE connectivity. The new Kindle Fire HDs are a vast improvement on the original products which would feel blocky. The new Kindles are almost identical so you’ll have trouble telling them apart and with their matte black finishes, similar to the Nexus 7. Although they still don’t match the looks of either the Nexus 7 or the Apple products, the new Kindle Fire HDs are a lot better than the original Kindles which felt like children’s toybooks. The proved new and i1920 x 1200 display has a pixel density...
